May is here and we hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather! Summer will be here before we know it! Here is this month’s news for PFLAG Jackson:
This month’s meeting will be held on Thursday, May 10th at 7:00 pm, at the usual location Immanuel Lutheran Church. This month’s meeting will focus on support based on need. We hope to see everyone there!
During a recent conference call, we received information regarding a conference in Lansing on Spirituality and Parenting. The date and time are still pending. If this something you are interested in, please let us know so that we can keep you informed.
PFLAG’s regional conference will be held in Cleveland, Ohio from September 7-September 9. If you are interested in attending, please let us know so that we can get the details to you.
There are still plenty of volunteer opportunities available for the Jackson Together Project. There are phone bank dates on the following Mondays from 6:00 pm- 9:00 pm: May 14, June 11, June 25, July 9, and July 23
There are also some Downtown Cruise Nights in need of volunteers for canvassing from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm on the following dates: May 25, June 29, and July 27. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Stasia Milligan and stasia.milligan@gmail.com.
Lastly, we have some information regarding "Reaching the Moveable Middle"
Led by Macky Alston, the Media Director at Auburn Theological Seminary. Their research suggests that there are many religious people who are torn between their empathy for people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender and the teachings of their religious traditions. Macky will share research about what helps people move to a more affirming place. The keynote, followed by break-out sessions, will begin on May 14th at 1:00 p.m. at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 125 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, Lansing Michigan 48912.
Macky is also the director of "Love Free or Die," a new documentary about Bishop Gene Robinson that won awards at the recent Sundance Film Festival. We will have a screening of the film at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be at 5:15 pm, with an opportunity for networking. Advance tickets for the full event are $35.
