Jason Galisatus

Jeanne Manford Scholarship
Hometown: Redwood City, CA

School: Stanford University

Jason is the founder and Executive Director of the Bay Area Youth Summit (BAYS), a non-profit organization which organizes LGBT and ally youth conferences in the San Francisco Bay Area. These conferences assist school administrators with effectively implementing anti-bullying policies in public schools in Jason’s district. Jason acquired the advocacy skills necessary to run BAYS through his role serving as president of his school’s GSA. With Jason’s leadership, the GSA sponsored a student protest against Proposition 8. Jason also led a GSA-sponsored Purple Spirit Day, which raised awareness about school bullying, harassment and discrimination. The event earned considerable media coverage for taking action and creating positive change for all students. While managing these responsibilities, Jason served as the LGBT Community Liaison for San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, where he helped organize San Francisco Pride. In the fall, Jason plans to study political science and communications – and continue his important advocacy work - at Stanford University.
